I love John McCain’s pick for VP. After months of stating, with all seriousness, that Barack Obama lacked the experience to sit in one of the highest offices in the world, he actually picked someone with less experience.

If there is but one constant that one can expect every election season, it is that the Republicans will accuse the Democratic candidate of being an elitist. Now I have to be honest with you — I’ve never understood what that meant. Aside from the obvious, which is clearly illustrated in the 2000 campaign with the “Bush is the guy most people want to have a beer” crap, I’m at a loss to understand what being “an elitist” does to disqualify someone from being President. If you’re an asshole with a general lack of respect for other nations, like Bush turned out to be, that’s one thing — but if you command respect from your peers I think that sort of plays into the role of wanting to run a nation of a couple hundred million people. After all, these people didn’t ascend to the positions they now hold by being meek and quiet. And this is a contest to see who has the capability to run the most influential country in the world. Elitism isn’t a real concern for me.

And it’s a good thing, too. Otherwise the fact that John McCain doesn’t even know how many houses he owns would get to me. I mean it’s one thing to accuse Barack Obama of being an elitist because of a “bitter” remark, but it’s another thing entirely to be so two-faced hypocritical to make these remarks from one of and estimated8 to 10 houses.

When the “bitter” recognize that the Republican attack machine is nothing better than the accusations they sling perhaps people can grow up and bit and start tackling our problems like adults. You know — problems like a frighteningly small number of people controlling the price of oil away from regulators eyes. You can thank Democratic investigations of the man behind the curtain for that one, kids.

I got a chuckle out of the fact that the US Census Bureau is now projecting that Caucasians will be a minority by 2042. The reason I’m laughing is because the the very same people who bitch about Affirmative Action are going to have children and grandchildren who will depend on it.

Something really, really odd happened last night. To the astonishment of the world, Jason Lezak closed what seemed to be an insurmountable gap that existed between himself as the French swimmer, Alain Bernard, for most of the fourth stage of the Men’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay. When he hit the wall and started back for the final lap, the lead disappeared and it became inevitable. And for the first time in our history as a family, all five of us screamed in triumph as Lezak touched the goal a scant 8 hundredths of a second before Bernard. All five of us. And I can’t help but think we weren’t the only ones by a long shot.

What a moment. What a perfect estuary of fate and glory.

As I was testing various things to ensure they’re working, I realized that I’d forgotten to upload all the music archives and just picked a song at random to ensure that was still working properly. Don’t ask me why, but there’s something about this song that seemed to fit the situation.

My apologies to those who don’t like 90s rap.
