Okay, I hope you’ve voted or are planning to vote before the polls close. As the old saying goes, if you don’t vote you can’t complain. Now I could go into a long screed about the importance of voting and civic duties and so forth, but nothing I say is going to convince the grotesquely ignorant at this point.

I have a good feeling that Obama is going to win this one, but I’ve gone to great lengths to avoid saying anything as I don’t wish to contribute to a feeling that would give Obama voters a reason to be lazy when it comes time to make it count. I have very much appreciated Obama’s approach to this whole situation in that he’s acting like he’s still behind and fighting to win it by a couple electoral votes. And judging from the lines I’ve seen both in person and in the media it looks like it’s working.

I’ll be online tonight if anyone wishes to chat as the results come in. Shoot me an email at Nichoman at Gmail dot com and I’ll give you my chat addresses. Maybe I’ll just hang out on Facebook or something. We’ll see. I’ll update as events unfold.

Update 6:46 pm
Okay, after taking care what seemed like endless chores and hitting every red light possible, I’m finally home. They already called Kentucky for McCain and Vermont for Obama — hardly a surprise for each. And as I type this, MSNBC just called South Carolina for McCain. Again, no surprise there.

Update 7:01 pm
As the polls closed at 8 eastern, they’ve already called Pennsylvania for Obama. That’s about it for McCain methinks.

Update 7:39 pm
MSNBC just finally called Georgia for McCain. Took a bit longer than most would’ve expected such a deep red state to be called. I just used CNN’s electoral calculator and if all goes the way I expect it, this is going to be an electoral landslide.

Update 8:01 pm
And they called Minnesota for Obama. ^_^ (Oh…and New York…hehe)

Update 8:29 pm
Gonna be an early night I think — they just called both Ohio and Florida for Obama. Stick ‘em with a fork, they’re done.

Update 10:40 pm
I’ll have more on this later, but John McCain’s concession speech was nice, but he still has much to make up for. Barack Obama is going to be speaking in a bit, and there isn’t a dry eye at his victory party. For a guy like me who loves history, I can honestly say there’s nothing like living in it.

Final Update 11:26 pm
If you missed Obama’s speech, go watch it now. If you don’t like that speech, there’s something wrong with you. It’s really that simple.

On a lighter note: From the chat channel…

BosDelthanes (11:18:02 PM): Oh, and technically this isn’t history yet
BosDelthanes (11:18:09 PM): we need to write it down first….
BosDelthanes (11:18:17 PM): and then read it at a later date
Nicho (11:25:10 PM): LOL
Nicho (11:25:14 PM): smartass
BosDelthanes (11:25:28 PM): you will obey the laws of history! I am edujmkated!
