When Minnesota’s 5th District elected the first Muslim to the United States Congress, I thought, if only briefly, that America was on its way towards a more understanding and culturally diverse viewpoint. Indeed, I was shocked that Keith Ellison was the first one – it is 2007, for Christ sakes. But what hopeful bliss I may have had was quickly destroyed by a racist fucknugget of a congressman by the name of Virgil Goode. The Grand Wizard sent a letter to his constituency. Here’s the fun parts…

The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran. We need to stop illegal immigration totally and reduce legal immigration and end the diversity visas policy pushed hard by President Clinton and allowing many persons from the Middle East to come to this country. I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America and to prevent our resources from being swamped.

The Ten Commandments and “In God We Trust” are on the wall in my office. A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, “As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office.” Thank you again for your email and thoughts.

As you can imagine, when this letter hit the press it pissed off a lot of people who would like to believe that racism doesn’t exist in our society. Ellison responded very politely to Goode stating that he traces his heritage back to 1742 (predating this government) which should’ve ended the discussion with Goode having surgery to remove his foot from his mouth. Unfortunately this fight is still going on; more than likely a byproduct of an obese ego of one Virgil Goode. But the part I bolded is the part I want you to pay attention to.

In his latest attempt to justify outright bigotry to the people of the United States, Goode sent another letter to USA Today. Demonstrating that he has no idea what the hell he is doing, nor that he has any comprehension whatsoever of history, he let loose the following – contrast this to the “diversity visas policy pushed hard by President Clinton”.

At least 12 million immigrants are here illegally. And diversity visas, a program initiated in 1990 to grant visas to people from countries that had low U.S. immigration at that time, are bringing in 50,000 a year from various parts of the world, including the Middle East.

I would like to know how this was a Clinton policy considering that at the time of its institution William Jefferson Clinton was still the Governor of Arkansas. It is official: The motto of the GOP is, “When in doubt, blame Clinton!”

But it needs to be said; Virgil Goode may have been remotely acceptable as a representative of the United States Congress during perhaps the 1800s, but he’s an outright embarrassment in the modern age. But that’s the way congress works – he’s representing an unfortunate truth that racism is still socially acceptable in places like Virginia’s 5th District.

And before a bunch of you fucknuggets flip out about how it’s about Ellison being sworn in on the Quran and not a Bible – aside from the fact that no book is not officially necessary during the “Swearing In” process – realize that if I were elected and decided to take the oath of office with The Complete Calvin and Hobbes it would be a non-issue. I doubt it would even make the odd news section of the AP. (And yes, I’d do it, too. That book has just as much wisdom as any other holy book.)
