    Hacking. God, that’s so 90’s.

    Welcome back–we missed you!

  2. 05/12/2006

Just read about this yesterday. The most beautiful city has been left to fend for itself by everyone other than God. It reminds me of an excerpt from an email I got a while back:

    “Hurricane Advice for Coastal Newcomers

    HOMEOWNERS’ INSURANCE:

If you own a home, you must have hurricane insurance. Fortunately, this insurance is cheap and easy to get, as long as your home meets two basic requirements:

    (1) It is reasonably well-built, and

    (2) It is located in Illinois.

Unfortunately, if your home is located in any area that might actually be hit by a hurricane, most insurance companies would prefer not to sell you hurricane insurance, because then they might be required to pay you money, and that is certainly not why they got into the insurance business in the first place. So you’ll have to scrounge around for an insurance company, which will charge you an annual premium roughly equal to the replacement value of your house. At any moment, this company can drop you like used dental floss.”

What’s that you say? Cover you after the years of through-the-roof premiums you’ve been sending us? That’s some good stuff you’ve been smoking. We’d rather stuff our pockets and go on vacation.

  3. 07/12/2006

Hey, Nicho, did you hear about this strange phenomenon called the “liberal media bias?” I heard these shrews Ann Coulter and Melanie Morgan talking about it the other day, but suddenly, I feel compelled to march right up to the headquarters of CNN and demand the immediate resignation of these biased, liberal commentators!

  4. 07/12/2006

Oh, I forgot to mention…did you happen to catch the FOX news commentary on the David Gregory/Tony Snow confrontation? They accused him of asking “loaded questions,” yet, Chris Wallace was perfectly diplomatic with Bill Clinton. These people must be smoking the best crack radical right-wingers can buy.

  5. 17/12/2006

“You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror.”–Dubya, Sept. 6, 2006

    Rewind:

“…Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised….The regime has a history of reckless aggression in the Middle East. It has a deep hatred of America and our friends. And it has aided, trained, and harbored terrorists, including operatives of al Qaeda.”–Dubya, January 7, 2003

Just one of many, many, many, of course.

  6. 18/12/2006

    Laziness. Pure and shameless.

  7. 21/12/2006

Damn Nicole Richie. What about all of this Rosie O’Donnell/Donald Trump controversy?! Trump gives a beautiful woman a “second chance,” and now he thinks he’s Jesus Christ?

    Give me a fucking break!

  8. 21/12/2006

Shit! I meant Nicole Kidman. Sorry. ; )

  9. 22/12/2006

You know, I was afraid to mention both of them in the same post for that very reason.

    Just so we’re clear:
    Kidman = good
    Richie = bad and/or ugly

And Trump just dethroned Miss Nevada 2007 for some rather lewd photos. For the record, I’m sensing that Trump realized the free publicity he got from the last scandal and went fishing on the 2007 class so as to boost ratings that haven’t seen positive numbers since the Eisenhower administration.

  10. 22/12/2006

Aww, I think Nicole Richie is pretty, although entirely too thin. I’m so ashamed to admit I watched three hours’ worth of The Simple Life marathon last night (for the first time) and actually enjoyed it. She’s funny!

I may need therapy in the near future.

  11. 25/12/2006

    Merry Christmas, Nicho!

  12. 29/12/2006

I had a wee bit to say ’bout it today as well. Contrary to Faux’s Ops, Ford really did open a can of the most virulent worms with his pardon alone.

Has anyone told Coulter that Tillman was atheist as well? I mean, based ‘pon her being barely more literate than teh Chimperor, they’d have to tell her. Even assuming he was agnostic about the whole she-bang, that reality might just shut her up for good.

Came via your comment at Blue Girl’s. “Condi as preznit…” WT..? Kevin IS a nincompoop! LOL!

  13. 29/12/2006

I’m glad he declared already. While I do like Gore more than I did in ‘00, I think Edwards’ candidacy will help him decide to not run, AND give him a chance to campaign for worth and viable candidate.

I’m staying “open-minded” and not backing anyone for sure yet, though. We’ll see what evolves vis-a-vie Impeachment and Censure.

  14. 29/12/2006

Interesting to me that Darfur even made the cut. Dubya doesn’t know how to spell it.

What did I tell you about the AP people? Geesh….

I haven’t mentioned it, but I like the new Nicho 2.0.

A healthy, safe, and prosperous new year to you and yours, my friend.

  16. 01/01/2007

Nicho, I think there will always be the “Christians” who spew hateful, hurtful messages targeted at the very people they claim God Himself hates (gays, liberals, assertive women, etc.). The main problem with that line of thinking is, of course, God hates no one, and he instructed us (although the VAST majority of us have a problem with the instruction) to love our neighbors. Not our Republican neighbors. Not our heterosexual neighbors. Not our fellow Christian neighbors. ALL of them. Personally, I find it’s an easier life when you don’t have to hate certain people, but others clearly have hate mastered.

  20. Robert
    07/01/2007

I have to say that I am mostly in agreement with you. I think Ellison showed good grace and took the high road by reaching out.

Christianity does say to love enemies. It does not require Christians to tolerate other religions nor a lifestyle of sin. According to the christian faith, there is no justification for recognizing other religions as valid.

However, government action is another thing. To adequately protect citizens, all must be acknowldeged and respected.

  21. 10/01/2007

Christianity frowns upon sin, but Jesus said we must love the sinner. After all, who among us is perfect? Oh, I forgot about O’Reilly. I renege the question.

  22. 10/01/2007

Not a one of us who hasn’t had a loved one or cherished friend depart for Iraq can say we understand what any who does feels when that happens. I’m picking on O’Reilly this morning just because it’s fun, but I love how he plays the I’ve-got-biological-stock-in-the-war-because-my-nephew-enlisted card. Suddenly, the man is an expert in the pain people feel when they have to let go of a husband, a father, etc., maybe for the last time. Let’s put something on the line he really would have trouble parting with–his tax break.

  23. 10/01/2007

Ah, crap. Any who DOES feels. Where’s the edit option, nicho?

    [Edit - fixx0r3d. ^_^]

  24. 10/01/2007

Oh, there will be dry eyes. 49 of them, to be exact.

  25. 17/01/2007

I heard about these comments I think on CNN sometime today and thought the same thing. WOW! What a SACRIFICE I’m making watching the news every night while men and women my age and younger with family and friends they love and who love them are suffering from horrendous injuries or dying without having done all they wanted to do in life. He doesn’t know what the word sacrifice means, so in all fairness, we have to cut him some slack.

  26. 19/01/2007

    Send that to Robert.

  27. 19/01/2007

Nicho, everything is open to interpretation, you see…their interpretation. A law is not a law, and a right not a right unless either gets the White House stamp of approval.

Those security policies bite, don’t they? I can’t even check my personal email because of them. Contrary to popular belief, it does not make me more productive. I know, thee are those who do no work and check myspace and stuff all day, but a quick 2 minute check on my email is better than me having to make 10 phone calls, right?

Interesting post. I would like you to go back and check…we WERE NOT intervening in the region, other than politically, before 9/11. That is the crucial point. We should have been. We should never have abandoned Afghanistan in 1989. But the fact is that we did, and it isn’t like we had nohing else going on. That damn Berlin Wall fell and distracted us a bit, did it not?

We have not been at war with Islam, and our response to 9/11 is no more a fault of the Crusaes than Pearl Harbor. We weren’t trying to convert anyone through fear of death. We probably should have swung a stick in the region a little earlier, though.

  29. 20/01/2007

We weren’t intervening in the region before 9/11? Yet we shouldn’t have abandoned Afghanistan in 1989?

    O_o

If your own characterization of our funding Osama wasn’t enough of a clue how wrong you are, perhaps I’m not the one who needs to go back and check. We’ve been intervening in that region since Jefferson, my friend. It only got worse when it was discovered how much black gold that region holds.

And regardless of the fact that your hero Ann Coulter once clearly stated, “We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity,” which pretty much contradicts your assertion that we weren’t try to convert anyone through fear or death, it doesn’t matter what our intentions are; it only matters what they perceive. When it comes to global politics, perception IS reality.

That book was pretty good. I finished it a couple of months ago. I recommend it for anyone with an interest of American History. Well history in general I guess, but American history specifically.

Reed is interesting. I think that he had a more prominent role in strategy and Washington’s politics than history will recognize.

Washington himself said at about the same time: “There is no punishment too great for the man who builds his fortune on his country’s ruin.”

I think the dems are positioning their political fortunes on this very thing.

  31. 21/01/2007

Funny…I think the Republican war profiteering machine is making a much better case.

My friend Nicho, there is no one I would rather have call me on the BS except for you. At least we have fun with our diatribes most of the time. You do know what I meant, so be nice. Besides, it is impossible to be rational with the idiots from both parties that pretend to be governing.

It is funny about the canine beer. I might have to get some for my furry friend. She usually gets leftovers almost every night in addition to her dog food, but something inebriating might be appreciated!

My favorite kool-aid flavor is the same as it’s color. Orange. In the military MREs, there is a luxury called “Powder, Beverage” with the flavor. I used to mix an orange and a cherry in a bottle of water. I am not sure What color it was, kinda
    light red.

While I am a huge football fan, mostly collge, I have never been a rabid NFL fan. I became ill, and still am, about the destructino of tradition and the sale of bowl games to corporations. The Tostidos bowl and the Papa John’s Bowl take away something from the collegiate gridiron. The NFL has tried to establish complete mediocrity and would rather see 8-8 teams than someone build a dynasty like the Pakers, Cowboys, and 49ers have done. Now to spread everything out like they have is annoying. I just commented a couple of hours ago about how it seems the NFL season has become as long and meaningless as the NBA season, which I refuse to watch.

In the thigh with a sharp fork…funny.

I only want to say one thing about Webb abd the quote you gave. Eisenhower did end the Korean War,and it was a bloody stalemate. It was bloody and messy, hence the term “war.” The bottom line was that we won in Korea. We saved South Korea and it remains a democracy today. We did it on the backs of our military (My dad was a young 18 year old machine gunner with the 1st Marine Division at Inchon and at Chosin) and accomplished what we set out to accomplish, despite China’s attempts to humilite us. We only declared an end when we were victorious.

It is obvious to me that Afghanistan was a detour from GWB’s main goal of conquest of Iraq (and maybe Iran). The way it was run by Rummy was incoherent, under-planned, and under-manned. So now we have the Taliban back in force and (who was that guy Osama Bin Fongotten)?

“Recommendation to future Democratic President: Hire Salma Hayek as your Press Secretary. I’ve haven’t seen the White House Press Corps this subdued since they wrote Dubya a blank check on 9/12/01.”

    LMAO!! That’s the key!

  40. 20/04/2007

I whole-heartedly agree. In the end, sensationalism gets ratings, and that’s what the major media looks out for. Forget about the impact this sick bastard’s diatribe will undoubtedly have on the families and friends of 32 victims–that’s unimportant. A murderer’s last wishes shouldn’t be granted…even in death.

  41. 26/04/2007

I own this one and believe it should be required viewing every couple of years, as this country has become so complacent about what happened 5 years ago. I’ve read so many books on the catastrophe, and there were always two firefighters who stood out for me among the hundreds of brave men who fought to save their fellow Americans that day–Ronald Bucca and Oreo Palmer. In this documentary, there is actually footage of Palmer getting his assignment before he raced up the flights of stairs to report on the condition of the affected floors. After all I’d read about him, to see him on video was heart-wrenching. What an incredible human being we lost on that day, along with thousands of others.

And in retaliation for mass murder, we invade the wrong country. Logic isn’t prevalent anymore, if it ever was.

It’s the only, I repeat ONLY reason the Repubs are putting pressure on Dubya to address the policies which are clearly failing in Iraq. Similarly, it’s the reason Hillary has changed her mind about the war she voted for–now, it could hurt her campaign. Hey there,

I’m so sorry about your dad, Nicho. Truly. I do understand why he did what he did, though. And I understand why people would choose the exact opposite. It’s one of those “control” issues I’m having in the “No Control” portion of my pie chart. Everyone has to do what they feel they have to do and they’ll come to figuring that out in their own time.

I understand the “emotional tailspin” also. Man oh man. Do I ever. It’s truly bizarre. Again, “no control.” No matter how you try to explain to yourself in a rational way what is going on or what went on – something else takes over and you totally realize you are not the steering the ship.

And I’m with you on the whole humor thing, too. You know I am. That’s how I figure I’m going to write about any of this when I do. Through the lens of ridiculousness. And actually, even though the last few weeks have been *hell* — there have been some very funny moments. Moments where my mom and I have been laughing so hard — it’s not even funny. Heh. :)

I could go on and on — your point about doctors “practicing medicine.” Check. “Enjoy every moment.” Check. Check, check, check to it all.

Again, I am so sorry about your dad and all you had to go through. But, I thank you for writing this post. Words and ideas mean so much to me right now.

    Thanks, Nicho.

From what little information was posted about Thom Fladung in the comments…I (a dumb-ass housewife with virtually no computer skills….really…I could barely figure out how to post a comment here) was able to find out in less than 5 minutes…WHERE his children go to school, their names and what ages they are, and how much money he and his wife donated to their school last year.

Now imagine what could be done with THAT information if it was more readily available to say….52 THOUSAND REALLY REALLY PISSED OFF state workers. I am not saying it would be the RIGHT thing to do to make that information even MORE accessible than it already IS. But it is LEGAL TO DO SO…

And since I dont plan on doing any harm WITH that info, then why shouldn’t I make it MORE accessible? I mean…so what if it has no relevance to anything we need to know. It’s public information anyway RIGHT?
