You really have to wonder if anyone even listens to what he’s saying anymore.

President Bush, escalating his budget battle with Congress, on Tuesday vetoed a spending measure for health and education programs prized by congressional Democrats.

He also signed a big increase in the Pentagon’s non-war budget although the White House complained it contained “some unnecessary spending.”

*snip*

“The Congress now sitting in Washington holds this philosophy,” Bush said. “Their majority was elected on a pledge of fiscal responsibility, but so far it is acting like a teenager with a new credit card.”

He’s kidding, right? Let’s toss aside the pot for a moment call this the Great Void calling the kettle black.

Good gravy, I needed that laugh.

A defensive President Bush insisted that he was still relevant this morning in a news conference dominated by his bitter complaints about the Democratic Congress.

Asked how he found himself vetoing a children’s health insurance bill that had passed Congress with bipartisan support, Bush insisted that using a veto is “one way to ensure I am relevant.”

You know, Reagan really wasn’t such a bad guy. He wasn’t the brightest bulb in the pack, but he knew how to call them as he saw them.

A moment I’ve been dreading. George brought his ne’re-do-well son around this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one who lives in Florida. The one who hangs around here all the time looking shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a real job. Maybe I’ll call Kinsley over at The New Republic and see if they’ll hire him as a contributing editor or something. That looks like easy work.

UPDATE: Well, it appears that this quote is completely fictional. Oh well, made me laugh anyway. My apologies for the mistake.

Clear vision optional.I think George W. Bush wasn’t totally lying in 2000 when he labeled himself as a ‘uniter’. It would appear that he is intent on uniting the rest of the world against the United States. So while it’s undeniably true that he has been the unquestioned champion of American division, he is still holding his promise in different ways. His latest idea is to take the unprecedented move — something else he’s quite adept at doing — of classifying a foreign military as a terrorist organization.

The United States has decided to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, the country’s 125,000-strong elite military branch, as a “specially designated global terrorist,” according to U.S. officials, a move that allows Washington to target the group’s business operations and finances.

The Bush administration has chosen to move against the Revolutionary Guard Corps because of what U.S. officials have described as its growing involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as its support for extremists throughout the Middle East, the sources said. The decision follows congressional pressure on the administration to toughen its stance against Tehran, as well as U.S. frustration with the ineffectiveness of U.N. resolutions against Iran’s nuclear program, officials said.

The designation of the Revolutionary Guard will be made under Executive Order 13224, which President Bush signed two weeks after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to obstruct terrorist funding. It authorizes the United States to identify individuals, businesses, charities and extremist groups engaged in terrorist activities. The Revolutionary Guard would be the first national military branch included on the list, U.S. officials said — a highly unusual move because it is part of a government, rather than a typical non-state terrorist organization.

To make a comparison, this would be like Iran designating the Army Rangers as a terrorist organization. To extend the hypothetical, some other foreign countries would agree with that statement by Iran. But in a larger context, The Preznit has effectively declared war on the Iranian military and, by proxy, Iran. All because their reactionaries elected a fucking fruitcup to head their nation just like we did.

This is the kind of Monday morning news that gets you up faster than a cup of espresso.

Karl Rove, the architect of President Bush’s two national campaigns and his most prominent adviser through 6-1/2 tumultuous years in the White House, will resign at month’s end and leave politics, a White House spokeswoman said this morning.

Bush plans to make a statement with Rove on the South Lawn this morning before the president departs for his ranch near Crawford, Tex. Rove, who holds the titles of deputy chief of staff and senior adviser, has been talking about finding the right time to depart for a year, colleagues said, and decided he had to either leave now or remain through the end of the presidency.

One liberal could easily call this reason to celebrate. But the fact of the matter is that Rove simply cannot do any more damage with Dubya than he already has. But I choose to interpret it differently.

Like him or hate him, Rove is a damn good political mind. He knows how to manipulate the media and the people with startling effectiveness. I don’t want to ascribe too much influence to him, but the fact is that he got Bush reelected despite Bush’s obvious failures in every category as a president, regardless of the details of how it happened.

Now when you realize that this gargantuan rat is now abandoning ship, don’t look at his wake, realize how fast the ship he’s leaving is slipping under.
